The South Australian government is pushing back on councils preventing the rental of granny flats to non-family members, amid the state’s housing crisis.

Data from CoreLogic has shown housing prices rose 0.8 per cent nationally in September, led by Adelaide, which also has the lowest vacancy rates in the country for both standalone houses and units.

As the pressure rises, the state government is seeking to clarify rules around granny flats, the latest initiative in a collection of announcements tackling housing.
